Pitt Street Business District

Trendy shops and restaurants tucked into a sleepy, historic neighborhood, the Pitt Street Business District is Mount Pleasant’s original downtown. To preserve and enhance this unique area, Mount Pleasant Waterworks, the Town of Mount Pleasant and SCE&G are working collaboratively to provide an improved pedestrian experience while increasing public safety and health.

Pitt Street

The Pitt Street Capital Improvement Project is a multi-agency, collaborative initiative designed to preserve the unique character of this historic business district by enhancing the overall visitor experience through investments in sanitary sewer, stormwater and streetscaping. These organizations will work together to minimize the community impact during construction. Construction is expected to last from mid-January 2018 until May 2018.

Mount Pleasant Waterworks

The sanitary sewer project consists of the replacement of approximately 1,100 feet of 8” diameter pipe.  The extent of this work is along Venning Street from the intersection with Whilden Street to the intersection with Bennett Street and along Pitt Street from the intersection with Venning Street to the intersection with Morrison Street.  The potable water system in this area is in close proximity to the existing storm pipes and will also be replaced to maintain service during construction and minimize construction conflicts.

Town of Mount Pleasant

The storm water project consists of the replacement of approximately 1,200 feet of 15”, 24”, and 30” diameter existing pipes. The extent of this work is along Venning Street from the intersection with Church Street to its terminus at the harbor and along Pitt Street from the intersection with Venning Street to the intersection with Morrison Street.

SCE&G

The design of the overhead distribution power and service lines is being reviewed to limit the required number of poles. SCE&G will work with the attached communication providers improve the aesthetics of the lines and drops. The existing street lighting will be replaced to improve the lighting and aesthetics.
