Women-Focused Fitness Franchise, The Barre Code, Makes Roots in Mount Pleasant

The Barre Code, a Chicago-based fitness franchise, is extending its mantra to Mount Pleasant with a brand-new studio at 1440 Ben Sawyer Blvd. Situated in Mount Pleasant Square, steps from Triangle Char & Bar and Oyster Park apartments in Mount Pleasant, The Barre Code brings the area a one-stop shop of cardiovascular conditioning, strength training, and restoration. With this program, women can expect to be challenged beyond the physical workout through a powerful formula of empowerment and positivity that builds strength from the inside out.

The Barre Code celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, June 7. Mount Pleasant Mayor Linda Page, along with Councilmen Jim Owens and Mark Smith, and Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce President Chris Staubes were in attendance to cut the ceremonial ribbon.

“Congratulations to The Barre Code on their grand opening,” said Mayor Linda Page. “We are delighted to have such wonderful businesses in Mount Pleasant focused on the wellbeing of our community.”

Co-founders Ariana Chernin and Jillian Lorenz first introduced The Barre Code, a women’s-focused exercise regimen, to the River North neighborhood of Chicago in 2010. The fitness duo has since maintained their commitment to a woman’s belief in her body and her pursuit of the potential – a policy adopted as the guiding principle of the brand: Live By The Barre Code. Determination to change the way women perceive their own strength led Chernin and Lorenz to develop a full-bodied program driven by empowerment, positivity and community.

“We’re so excited to bring the Charleston women into this incredible community of strong, supportive women and finally get them living by The Barre Code,” says Courtney Vorachek, owner of The Barre Code Charleston.

The new location shares the sleek style of its corporate counterparts while integrating a comfortable functionality reminiscent of the Mount Pleasant surroundings. Upon entering the space, clients are greeted by the brand’s uplifting mantra, which holds a permanent place on the wall just behind the front desk. The 2,2000-square-foot space boasts one large studio room, two spa-quality restrooms, a kid’s room for those moms who are in need of childcare and changing rooms complete with a fully stocked vanity area. Remaining details throughout the studio are kept simple and clean, enveloping clients in an inviting atmosphere of inspiration and motivation.

With spacious studio rooms that accommodate up to 24 clients per class, The Barre Code encourages women to discover what they are capable of, transforming clients into their strongest and fittest selves. Renowned for its innovative exercises that are anything but routine, the brand brings an ever-evolving class curriculum to the Charleston location. Trained alongside The Barre Code’s seasoned corporate team, the Charleston instructors welcome the brand-new space with rotating class formats and empowering motivational skills to ensure participants will never plank into a plateau.

Core classes cover all of the body’s needs, from the original “Barre Code,” a fifty-minute, total-body workout of isometric holds, heavy repetition, and deep stretching; to “Brawl,” a combination of kickboxing and strengthening moves that “SELF Magazine” has dubbed one of the best workouts in the nation. Participants are encouraged to Empower themselves to reach beyond their physical, mental, and emotional limits on a three-dimensional ride of plyometrics, speedwork, and agility training during the coveted “HIIT” class or focus on full-range-of-motion strength training with their bootcamp-style routine, “TBC.”
