Whether you find yourself drawn to the tart, salty taste of a margarita or the crisp, bitter bite of a Negroni, Mount Pleasant has plenty of unique drinks for every palate.
Cranberry Mojito
The Granary’s (835 Coleman Blvd.) fresh take on a mojito is tart and refreshing, and the cranberry twist feels decidedly seasonal. Made with Deep Eddy Cranberry Vodka, mint cranberry juice, soda, and simple syrup, this ruby-colored cocktail is perfect for anyone who likes their drink sweet but balanced. Website.
Coleman Boulevard
The Charleston Harbor Fish House (32 Patriots Point Rd.) has a whole menu of signature cocktails, but the Coleman Boulevard stands out from the pack as being particularly elegant and celebratory. Hat Trick Gin, St. Germain, Aperol, lemon, and champagne make a bubbly and herbal cocktail—the perfect drink for watching the sun set over Charleston Harbor.
RD Margarita
You would expect a restaurant with a Southwestern flair like Red Drum (803 Coleman Blvd.) to have a killer margarita on their menu, but the RD Margarita still manages to surprise. Milagro Silver, Cointreau, and fresh lime simple syrup all sounds like the makings of a classic, high-end margarita, but the bartenders at Red Drum add a touch of jalapeno chile for a slightly spicy kick. It’s tart, sweet, and spicy at all once.
Negroni
This Italian standard isn’t on every American bar menu, but if you’re in the mood for something crisp and bitter, try Wood and Grain’s (778 S Shelmore Blvd., #102) classic Negroni. A straightforward mix of Woody Creek Gin, Carpano Antica Vermouth, and Campari, it doesn’t reinvent the recipe, but there’s no need to fiddle with perfection. It’s bracing and boozy, and a perfect complement to one of their wood-fired pizzas.
Kentucky Mule
The Shelter Kitchen & Bar’s (202 Coleman Blvd.) twist on a Moscow Mule is refreshing and almost too easy to drink. Instead of the traditional vodka, ginger beer, and lime. The Shelter makes their mule with Maker’s Mark 46 Bourbon. The result is a warm, oaky flavor and a little Southern charm added to the traditional cocktail.
