Lowcountry Learners, a STEM-focused (Science Technology Engineering and Math) child care provider and learning center, celebrated its grand opening in Mount Pleasant on Thursday, May 25. Mayor Linda Page, along with Town Councilman Jim Owens and representatives from Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce, were in attendance for a ribbon cutting ceremony.
Offering programs for children ages two to four, Lowcountry Learners provides a unique experience for every child. Through hands-on learning opportunities and engaging projects, the preschool strives to empower their students and to generate excitement about STEM.
“We are thrilled to have Lowcountry Learners in Mount Pleasant,” said Mount Pleasant Mayor Linda Page. “It’s very exciting to have such wonderful businesses invest in our youngest citizens’ lives.”
Susan Harmon, co-owner of Lowcountry Learners, has a great deal of experience in preschool instruction, serving as a teacher, creator, and director. Along with her husband and co-owner, Bill Harmon, they have established an innovative learning institution for the children of Mount Pleasant.
“Lowcountry Learners looks forward to enriching the lives of many children through our unique approach to education and child care,” said Susan Harmon. “We are delighted to be in Mount Pleasant and to serve the citizens within the Town.”
Another key aspect of the program is the ever-changing “themes” used within the preschool. Each month, different toys and books are brought into the learning environment to keep the children engaged and excited for new topics. However, all new materials and toys will be STEM-related.
The school operates from August to May, and is open from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Throughout this time, children are assessed to ensure their needs are being met and strengths developed. During the summer months, camps will be offered utilizing a fun and engaging curriculum. Lowcountry Learners is currently accepting students for summer camp and fall enrollment.
