5 Sweet Treats To Beat The Heat

As the hot and hazy days of summer crawl on, there’s nothing like something cold and sweet to beat the heat. Try one of Mount Pleasant’s best warm-weather treats and satisfy your sweet tooth while trying to stay cool.

  1. PELICAN’S SNOBALLS (409 West Coleman Blvd.)

When it feels almost too hot to eat at all, an icy snoball from Pelican’s SnoBalls is cool, sweet, and refreshing. The Louisiana-style snoball is fluffy shaved ice topped with flavored syrup, like the snow cones you remember from childhood, but with an upgrade. With well over 100 flavors to choose from—from standards like cherry and lemon-lime to off-the-wall options like toothpaste and tamarind—there’s something for everyone in need of a cool down. 1. BURGERFI (735 Coleman Blvd.)

There’s always vanilla and chocolate custard at Burgerfi, but summer brings the Very Berry Wafflewich to the menu. Vanilla frozen custard and tropical berry jam are sandwiched between sugar-glazed waffles. Even sweeter? $1 of every sandwich supports St. Jude’s Children Hospital. Website.

  1. YE OLE FASHIONED (1502 Highway 17)

The parking lot at Ye Ole Fashioned is filled all summer, and with good reason. This family-friendly ice cream shop and cafe serves up big portions in cups and cones, along with sundaes, milkshakes, and floats. Try the Strawberry Pound Cake sundae or the Tropical Milkshake and kick back on one of the swings out front. Website.

  1. WICH CREAM (Mount Pleasant Farmers Market, 645 Coleman Blvd.)

Every Tuesday, Wich Cream is at the Mount Pleasant Farmers Market slinging ice cream sandwiches. But these aren’t your standard ice cream truck sandwiches. Instead of sticky chocolate wafers and foamy vanilla ice cream, Wich cream sandwiches handcrafted ice cream (like Salted Caramel and Raspberry Goat) between thin, chewy brownies. Website.

  1. ON FORTY-ONE (1055 Highway 41, Suite 600)

While s’mores definitely won’t cool you down when the weather is hazy and humid, they may just be the unofficial dessert of summer. If sitting fireside, battling mosquitos, in nearly 100-degree weather doesn’t sound appealing, let On Forty-One bring you s’mores tableside on their covered patio. You can roast your marshmallows to your liking at a tabletop fire and stay cool. Website.
